Whether you have a green thumb (or maybe even a green pinky!) or not, playing with the leafy greens can be so much FUN! :-)
A little bit of knowledge can be powerful (some may say even dangerous hehehe!) …. whetting your appetite for even more.... :-)
A sprig of rosemary here, a sprig of mint there, a sprig of parsley everywhere! Herbs (or ‘erbs, depending on who you’re listening to) are extremely versatile …. as a garnish, in a juice or smoothie, as part of a salad, soup, dessert or dish, to decorate a table, even to keep insects away.
After a visit to the Botanic Gardens, followed by a trip to Bunnings and further research, there are many alternatives for people who may be “space challenged”. There are options for pot gardens, balcony gardens, courtyard gardens, vertical gardens, horizontal gardens …. I even came across upside down gardens! With helpful guidance, a few key items and a creative fertile mind, it seems anything is possible!
Time got away from me as I walked the aisles of Bunnings, curiously eyeing off all the plants, products and accessories, wondering which would be the lucky ones coming home with me. I must admit the Garden Care aisle at Bunnings is a sure thing to clear your nasal passages! All those smells wafting into a heady mix really got up my nose and tickled my throat.
After much deliberation, my new “family” members are Italian Parsley, Mint, Rosemary, Lemon Scented Basil and a dwarf Lemon tree. The dwarf Lemon tree had a label Lots A’ Lemons, showing that the tree grows up to 1.5 metres and produces delicious full-sized fruit …. I’m praying the label is true to its word! :-)
After this successful project, I’m already planning ahead. Checking out the website of Vitality 4 Life at Byron Bay (the eastern most point of Australia, in northern NSW), I noticed they have a cool range of garden products. I’m keen to learn more about the Sun Garden and the Little Pig Home Composter (Organic Gardening). If you’d like to know more too, take a look at http://www.vitality4life.com.au/garden-products
I’m excited about my new foray and dabble into pot gardening and growing my very own herbs! :-)
I’d love to hear about your gardening stories, successes and tips, so please feel welcome to share and leave a comment.
Whether I’m whipping up a dish at home or to take with me socially, I know I can head out into my courtyard and I’ll have a selection of fresh herbs to add to the mix, home grown and grown with love! Fresh and locally grown (how much closer can you get!) adds to the FUN and excitement of healthy food preparation …. and better supporting me to live a life I love!
