I have many passions … and one of my passions is FOOD!! :-)
I LOVE food!! And more specifically …. I love food that supports my optimal health and wellbeing! Food nurtures, energises, heals and fuels our body. We only have one physical body in which to live this life here on earth and I’m determined to nourish and fuel mine to the best of my ability, throughout my entire life, so that my body stays healthy and youthful until my very last breath. Quality of life and living a life I love is important to me!
I believe we all have a choice about what we put into our body, we are all unique individuals and there is no ”one brush fits all” when it comes to our general health and wellbeing. We approach health, fitness and general wellbeing from our own view of the world and possibly from a different perspective. Having said this, I believe we have free will and choice in life.
I appreciate there are so many options on the market and it can be a bit of a jungle and somewhat confusing. For me personally, I find it helpful to enlist the support of professionals (as I don’t know what I don’t know, and physiology and nutrition aren’t fields I’ve studied). I’ve been seeing a Naturopath for just over 12 months, which has been invaluable from a nourishment and nutrition perspective, enabling me to make more informed choices for my overall health and wellbeing.
I believe good health and good nutrition are linked. When I open my refrigerator and pantry, I know that the choices I make are healthy for me and my body …. mainly raw and fresh foods, organic as often as possible, and treats I can savour, I know taste sensational and are healthy! Who would have thought “treat” and “healthy” would complement each other in the same sentence! I also prefer the term ‘Eating Plan’ instead of ‘Diet’, as I see this as a plan for health based on nutrition and lifestyle choices. :-)
Eating out could potentially be challenging, however, some cafes and restaurants offer healthier menu options that are appetizing and delicious. I imagine more will spring up over time, to provide us with a greater variety to choose from. At the Gold Coast, check out the Mandala Organic Arts Café in Broadbeach, and From Earth & Water or the Woodbox Café in Burleigh.
Over the years, I’ve attended a range of Raw Food cooking classes and events, which I’ve found online or through health food stores such as Mrs Flannerys. The internet, online organic stores and facebook pages are terrific resources to tap into, as are local farmer’s markets. There is an abundance of raw food and healthy recipes readily available online and in books. Books are a solid foundation for me to build on, as I have a thirst for knowledge and I love reading! A few of my favourites are:
Paul Chek (CHEK Institute) and Dr Joseph Mercola speak of Metabolic Typing or Nutritional Typing – which is the best mix of proteins, carbohydrates and fats for your body type and optimal health. A simple online questionnaire will determine whether you are predominantly Carbohydrate type, Protein type of Mixed type. The website also provides ample recipes and tips for each type. . To take the test, go to http://products.mercola.com/nutritional-typing/ or http://nutritionaltyping.mercola.com/Login.aspx
I agree there is an abundance of information available to us in relation to food and yes, some of it can be contradictory and somewhat confusing. Chocolate is good for me, then it’s not good for me, then it’s good for me. I’m proud of myself, I went choc free over the Easter long weekend (a small personal challenge I set for myself …. done, tick that box hehehe)! :-)
‘Everything in moderation’ is another phrase I hear regularly and one I personally subscribe to.
For me, food and men are alike …. they need to look good, smell good, taste good, feel good and be good for me! :-)
I tend to keep a folder of healthy recipes I enjoy making, which have been tried, taste tested and have got the “thumbs up” to make again. I like quick and simple and my experience so far has been that raw food recipes require no cooking or baking and usually very few dishes to prepare! :-)
So I ask you …. what are you putting into your body? How happy and satisfied are you with your general health and wellbeing?
I know, from personal experience, at times it may seem easier to reach for the processed, convenient snack, but at what cost? There are so many fresh, healthy, natural foods available from grocers and farmers markets, often at a lower price than the supermarket, so I say “GO NATURAL”.
I believe in living a holistic and balanced life, and yes there are a plethora of choices available to us! :-) I personally choose to nourish and feed my mind, body and soul, to the best of my ability, to enable me to have optimal health and wellbeing and to live a happier, healthier and longer life …. to live a life I love! :-)
A big part of achieving this is being MINDFUL of the CHOICES I make in relation to the FOOD I nourish and fuel my body with. I encourage you do to do the same, to look terrific, to feel fantasti, to have FUN doing it and to live a life you love! :-)
